ESP teaching in the department of economics at the University of Mascara : a diagnostic study of the problems and suggested remedial strategies

There has been a rise in the learning of ESP (English for Specific Purposes) in addition to the study of the English language (General English).This article deals with the teaching of ESP in the department of Economics at the university of Mascara : after observing the ESP courses, it has been noticed that ESP is taught without taking learners’ needs into account.

Thus, a syllabus design is proposed to seek learners’needs, motivate them and prepare them for a better understanding of English in their specific field
