The article aims to trace the history of historical writing in Algeria and its exploitation in protecting the national identity of the reader, from the middle history and the Ottoman history to the colonial period and the contemporary period.

We will present examples of each period and through which we will employ the historical studies in preserving the national identity in the religious and linguistic aspects.

Through the stages of national history, for each period of its characteristics, we must renew our role in research methods of employing historical studies in the formation of awareness of national identity through past experiences to protect national identity, because the responsibility of the historian imposed on him to respond to The challenge.
