Political science is open to other disciplines within the social sciences and humanities, unlike closed disciplines like law, philosophy, sociology, psychology and economics.

The study argues that the openness of political science to other disciplines and its connection to the authority of politicians, members of parliament, and citizens developed the field in a way that benefits political science.
