Theoretical investigation is carried out on flow formation and heat transfer characteristics of viscous incompressible and heat-generating/absorbing fluid in a horizontal rotating channel in presence of viscous dissipation.

Exact solution is obtained for two cases of interest: when the fluid considered is heat generating and also when the fluid is heat absorbing.

Interesting effect of some governing parameters on fluid temperature, rate of heat transfer and critical Eckert number are identified and discussed using line graphs and tables for both cases.

It is found out that the rate of heat transfer decreases with increase in heat source causing an increase in fluid temperature while the contrast is true for heat sink.

In addition, critical Eckert number decreases with heat source while it increases with heat sink.
