الملخص EN

Mahmoud Hassan Ismael was born in the village of Nakhaila on the West Bank of the Nile, south of Assiut, in Upper Egypt.

He grew up, just like other poor peasants, homeless, except for the cottages they set up from the dry wood sticks that resemble their thin bodies.

Working in groups, the poor peasants used to sing mawāwīl or sad traditional songs in which they express their their sorrows and joys in harmony with the music of nature such as the groaning of waterwheels, the cooing of pigeons, the hooting of owls, the screaming of crows and the singing of birds.

The village, with its inhabitants, animals, birds, plantations and rhythms, had a great influence on Mahmoud Hassan Ismail's personality and poetry.

It is the source of his memories and the place that shaped the structures of his thoughts, imagination and culture.

Ismail's poetry is like a dictionary or a record of all the small and large objects that the village contains.

This dictionary is not just a record of words or images, but a record of scenes loaded with live and real emotions.

The Egyptian village in Upper Egypt stores an amazing mythical legacy that automatically moved to the poetry of Mahmoud Hassan Ismail.

In the mythical folklore, the Nile is not just a watercourse but a lively, alert organism; El Naddaha is a genie who calls children to the Nile, most likely to their deaths; poverty is an old man huddled back who look like a monkey that has two horns; the sun takes away children's old teeth in exchange for new, white teeth; the walls have ears; the dove is a taleteller; the crow is a thief; and at night the donkey is an ifrit or a spirit of a murdered victim.

Mahmoud Hassan Ismail inherited the phenomenon of titles from the countryside and employed it cleverly in his poetry.

Ismail's nature is not just a store for photos and knowledge; it is his way to express humanity's pains and desires.
