Poetry is the speech of the soul, beat of the heart, and the talk of the self.

Poetry draws its expressions from nectar of the cultural environment.

The term parallelism has emerged in our Arabic rhetoric which expressed its essence and forms through repetition and prosody structures in the past in spite of its recent prominence by Jacobson.

The importance of parallelism appears as a phonetic, musical and semantic phenomenon that a poet depends on when composing a poem.

The phonetic parallelism includes: letters of construction that build the vocabulary (Horoof al mabani) and letters of meaning that have meaning (Horoof al ma’ani).

The poet Abu Tammam took advantage of letters denotation, sounds, and characteristics to support his idea and to achieve his goals.

His ability to make use of both of these letters to be suitable to his targeted meaning is clearly noticeable which has an obvious effect on the internal rhythm on the poem.

Furthermore, his ability brings out what is in the heart of the poet such as intellectual and artistic visions to compose his poem with its components in a perfect way.

This research aims at investigating manifestations of vocal parallelism of letters in the poetry of Abu Tammam, and clarifying the impact of parallelism in terms of the semantic meaning and rhythm.
