Le problème du calque phonétique dans la traduction des anthroponymes antiques

Through this article, we explained the reasons that predispose the translator to choose the literal and phonetic translation when it comes to ancient anthroponomy.

In fact, this problem comes from a lexicological phenomenon which considers the proper noun as signifier and deprives it of any possibility of having a function other than the designation of a specific individual, within a determined spatiotemporal situation.

The process consists in demonstrating the antithesis of the phenomenon in question, going from the anthroponym as a signifier to the anthroponym as a signified.

The role of the ancient proper noun in this article is to serve as an example to show the different connotations that it holds, given its characteristics that distinguish it from the actual proper noun, such as the possibility for it to be either real or mythological.

In the end this research gives the translator an alternative of the phonetic translation, in other words, a translation based on the semantic value of the Anthroponym.
