A study on the life cycle of Monosteira unicostata (M.R), Fam.

Tingidae, Ord.

Hemiptera-Heteroptera, under field conditions at Meskena, east of Aleppo, during the period 1992-1994, suggest that the insect emerges from winter diapause during early spring when average temperature is around 16°C.

The insect had 3-4 generations per year (3 generations during 1992 and 1993, and 4 generations during 1994).

Highest population density was reached by the third and fourth generations during late summer.

The insect started its winter diapause during the second half of October.

Whereas, under glasshouse conditions at temperature of 24±2°C, the insect had five developmental stages.

Systemic insecticides (organophosphates and carbamates) were more effective in controlling adult insects than contact insecticides, especially 48-72 h after treatment.

Contact insecticides were more effective on the larval stages of the insect, especially 24 h after treatment, when mortality was over 90%.

The insecticide Tombel 32 EC was effective in controlling adult females emerging from winter diapose, especially the first generation.

It protected the trees during spring and summer.

The insect population started to increase during late summer Accordingly it was recommended that insecticide treatment need to be conducted immediately after the emergence of female insects from the winter diapause and by employing a long lasting systemic insecticide.
