It demonstrates how central Charles Allston Collins wasto the famous Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and to the almost equally famous circle of Charles Dickens and the 'young men', whom he mentored in journalism and fiction.

The paper also argues that he took on a specific cultural and aesthetic stance distinguishable from each group.
