The objective of our research is to highlight the process of acquisition of phonological awareness in French as a foreign language, through the reading manual for students in the third year of primaryschool in Algeria.

Methodologically, our approach is based on a survey of French teachers in three cities: Béchar, Saida and Oran and on the phonological and linguistic analysis of the textbook of the third yearof primary school.

Our results made it possible to affirm that the elaboration of this manual obeys a lot of constraints because it has to adapt permanently to the requirements and changes of the needs of the learners, and to also affirm that the reading activities proposed in this manual aim at establishing a phonological competence within the learner.

However, the necessary teaching tools for this purpose remain disproportionate and inconsistent.

الملخص FRE

L'objectif de notre recherche est de mettre en exergue le processus d'acquisition de la conscience phonologique en français langue étrangère, et ce à travers le manuel de lecture destiné aux apprenants de la troisième année primaire en Algérie.

Sur le plan méthodologique, notre démarche s'appuie sur une analyse du manuel scolaire de la troisième année primaire ainsi qu'une enquête réalisée auprès des enseignants de français au primaire, dans trois villes à savoir: Béchar, Saida et Oran.

Nos résultats ont permis de dire que l'élaboration de ce manuel obéît à beaucoup de contraintes car il doit être adapté en permanence aux exigences et aux changements des besoins des apprenants.

Nous avons constaté également que les activités de lecture proposées dans ce manuel visent l'installation d'une compétence phonologique chez l'apprenant, mais les outils pédagogiques nécessaires à cet effet resteraient disproportionnés et manqueraient de cohérence.
