The purpose of this article is to determine the impact of internal and external governance mechanisms on the financial performance of banks in Algeria.
In particular, we focused on the analysis of the effect of board characteristics (size, percentage of external directors, duality), ownership structure (ownership identity) and prudential regulation represented by the capital adequacy ratio.
The statistical analysis of data from 11 algerian banks confirms some assumptions and show that there is a significant relationship between certain governance mechanisms and financial performance of banks in Algeria.
الملخص FRE
L'objectif de cet article est de déterminer l'impact des mécanismes internes et externes de la gouvernance sur la performance financière des banques en Algérie.
Nous nous sommes en particulier intéressés à l'analyse de l'effet des caractéristiques de conseil d'administration (la taille, le pourcentage des administrateurs externes, la dualité), la structure de propriété (identité de propriétaire) et la réglementation prudentielle représentée par le ratio d'adéquation des fonds propres.
L'analyse statistique des données de 11 banques confirme quelques hypothèses et indique qu'il y a une relation significative entre certains mécanismes de gouvernance et la performance financière des banques en Algérie.
