Being necessary in Algerian universities, French is almost taught in all scientific disciplines; however, French for University Purposes prompts us to question the approach of this training and its importance.

In this article, we present a survey that we conducted in the University of «Moulay Tahar» in Saida, in order to establish an inventory of the teaching of the FUP in the scientific departments.

The survey has revealed that French for University Purposes (FUP) is not always well grasped by teachers and is often assimilated as French for General Purposes(FGP)
