This research aims to study the impact of the environmental pollution on the economic growth in the case of Algeria during the period 1970-2010.
Annual data were used by taking CO2 emissions as a proxy for the environmental pollution and GDP for economic growth in addition to other explanatory variables.
The cointegration analysis was conducted using the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL).
The results showed a long run relationship among the variables subject of study (GDP, CO2, AG).
There is both a negative short and long run relationship between GDP and AG.
There is also a positive long run relationship between GDP and CO2 emissions, and no short-term relationship between these variables.
