Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate the effect of teaching an educational unit in science based on design thinking in acquisition of physical concepts in eighth-grade students in light of their formal thinking.

To achieve the aim of this study, the researchers used the qusai-experimental approach, and developed the educational content of the unit “The Electricity in our Lives” from science text book of the eighth grade, this module was applied to the experimental group students, and the control group students were taught in the traditional way .The number of the study members reached (62) female students from Ein Al-Basha Directorate of Education.

To collect the data, the study tools were applied after verifying their psychometric properties, namely: the physical concepts test and the formal thinking test.

The results revealed that there is a statistically significant differences in the degree of acquisition of physical concepts attributed to both the teaching strategy based on design thinking and the difference in formal thinking.

Also, the results showed that there is a statistically significant difference in the interaction between teaching strategy and formal thinking.

Based on the previous results, it was recommended that the science curricula should be developed according to the design thinking strategy.
