This study aims to identify the selection criteria adopted for direct recruitment of university professor in Algerian universities and compare them with some Arab and foreign models.

The university teaching function is one of the most important and effective functions to prepare the student for life.

And helps them to acquire new skills and positive behavioral and attitudes that are necessary to become an effective member in the society, The university professor is the focus of the advancement of the higher education system and scientific research.

Therefore, universities seek to develop university education in the light of quality standards, Through using good selection methodes of the professor.

The study found that there are no considerable differences between Algerian and foreign universities in the criteria of professional selection of the university professor.

most universities agree on the criterion of the needs of the department and the standard of the certificate and the scientific production of the candidate, as well as personality traits during the interview.

But the differences are in the way and seriousness of application.
