Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to analyze familial speech acts, specifically those that occur amongst peers and rivals, namely spouses, siblings as well as the father and his children.

Moreover, this study takes the Holy Quran as a model for analysis since it is a text rich in the speech acts of numerous individuals within families who comprise the core of any society.

This study analyzes the informative and compositional linguistic structures of speech acts which are governed by the context of utterance, the intent of the two speakers as well as the informative purposes of the pragmatic message and its impact during the communicative process.

Notably, there may be a discrepancy between speech and the inferred intent of the speaker.

Therefore, speech acts appear to be geared according to specific strategies.

In conclusion, this research stresses the significance of the pragmatic study of speech acts since such a study not only analyses speech acts within a structural / linguistic framework, but rather within a complex network which reveals numerous dimensions of the communicative message, the relationship between the addresser and the addressee and the issues concerning them, in addition to the communicative strategies employed to achieve the desired impact.
