Abstract EN

The aim of the present paper is to identify (the impact of Bybee's model on changing alternative perceptions of mathematical concepts of mathematics for second year intermediate students).

in order to verify the study aim, the following null hypothesis has been formulated "there is no difference of statistical significance at the level (0.05) between the average scores of the experimental group, which studied according to Bybee's model and the average scores of the control group which was taught by standard method to test alternative perceptions of mathematical concepts.

the study sample included (86) students selected randomly from the Hashimate intermediate school for boys, Hashimate directorate of education that was intentionally selected.

there are (40) students of the experimental group and (40) students of the control group.

the equivalence of students of the two groups was given in the following variables : (intelligence, previous achievement in mathematics, test of alternative perceptions of mathematical concepts).

t-test is used to identify the statistical significance.

the study materials are the first three chapters (relative numbers, real numbers, and boundaries) of the mathematics textbook for the second intermediate stage, 2nd ed.

there are 20 concepts with an alternative perception out of 24 concepts were detected by more than 34% that was adopted by the researcher as a standard for the alternative concept.

therefore the researcher prepared 20 daily plans for the experimental group based on Bybee's model and 20 daily plans for the control group according to standard method.

the researcher trained a teacher to teach the two research groups during the experiment that lasted the first course of the academic year (2020-2021).

also, the researcher constructed his study tool, which is to test of alternative perceptions of mathematical concepts that include 40 items.

the test included two lists, list (a) consisted of (20) item with four objective alternatives : and list (b) of (20) items with four alternatives.

the final score of the test was (40) marks.

the researcher gives (0, 1) for each item in the lists.

psychometric properties of the test (validity, reliablity, difficulty coefficient, discriminatory power and effectiveness of alternatives) were confirmed.

after the completion of the experiment, the test was applied to the two study groups.

the papers were scored, data collected, analyzed, and statistically processed, which showed that there were differences of statistical significance at the level (0.05) between the average score of the experimental group and the average score of the control group in testing alternative perceptions of mathematical concepts in favour of the experimental group.
