This study was carried out to offer deep insight into the issues affecting master and doctoral students by reviewing and critically analysing recent literature on the master and doctoral experience.

Qualitative research was used in an attempt to gain in-depth information and ensure that the data reflect what is happening.

Findings revealed that good quality research is imperative to bring positive changes in educational system.

It could be affected by supervisors, students' knowledge and skills, and institutional logistical factors.

These factors are important indicators for stakeholders in order to promote and improve educational practices.
