Mathematics is among the subjects that are characterized by abstraction and complexity, and require special teaching methods, and the question of forming a mathematics teacher cognitively and educationally and working to provide him with the skills and competencies for teaching this subject are among the priorities that various contemporary educational approaches behave and cognitive.

Through this article, and based on educational literature and official pedagogical documents related to teaching mathematics in secondary education in Algeria, we are trying to develop a perception of appropriate and necessary teaching competencies for a mathematics teacher in secondary education.
