Abstract EN

This study was conducted to analyze the content of the Saudi first intermediate textbook of Social and National Studies in light of creative thinking skills.

Content analysis, based on descriptive approach, was employed.

Each item was used as analysis unit, whereas creative thinking skills were used as analysis category.

The study listed (40) items.

The textbook was deliberately used.

Results showed that fluency skill came on top with (56.33%), followed by flexibility skill with (19.88%), then sensitivity to problems with (12.67%) and finally originality with (11.10%).

Seemingly, there is an overall lack and/or imbalanced distribution of creative skills embedded in the textbook.

The paper recommends reconsidering the textbook’sactivities and content in order to develop creative thinking skills among students.

The study also suggests providing social and national studies textbooks in the first year of intermediate school with learning situations and educational activities which develop creative thinking in the area of originality amongst female students
