Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to examine the measurement invariance of TIMSS science test for eighth grade across school location and student gender in Jordan.

To achieve this, the researchers used the analytical descriptive approach to analyze the test results for Jordanian )8th( graders who participated in the TIMSS study in 2011.

Specifically, the responses of )547( students to )31( items in booklet eight and nine were analyzed, item EAR6 were excluded.

The data of the remaining )30( items were analyzed by using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Multiple Groups Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MGCFA) through the statistical program (AMOS 22).

To judge the suitability of the test factorial structure, the following goodness-of-fit indicesin Structural equation modeling (SEM) were used: Chi Square(χ2) test ,Comparative Fit Index (CFI), Root Mean Square Error Of Approximation (RMSEA), and Standardized Root Mean Residual index (SRMR).

The results indicated that the proposed four factors model (Biology, physics, chemistry, earth science) fits the data.

Also, the results indicated the existence of configuring , metric and scalar invariance across school location and student’s gender
