Abstract EN

This study aims to detect the level of information literacy in the academic community.

This was conducted upon academic faculty members at Balqa' Applied University.

The study sample consisted of (235) members, selected randomly on regular basis from faculty members (n = 506), in the Al-Balqa’ Applied University (center).

Results of the study revealed that faculty members have a moderate level of information literacy, and a mathematical mean of (3.54) for the total score.

Results also showed statistically significant differences in favor of the degree of professor, and science colleges, and that the best proposals for the development of information literacy for faculty members come through activating the role of the university to raise the level of information literacy among its employees.

The most important recommendations of the study are : reviewing the proposals submitted by faculty members in the development of information literacy periodically, and holding orientation sessions and workshops in order to enrich the information literacy, and develop expertise and increase their efficiency, as well as fostering further studies by other researchers to link information literacy to other new variables, and that can help Jordanian universities achieving their goals more efficiently.
