Abstract EN

The aim of this paper is to highlight one of the most important pillars of good governance, transparency and accountability and its role in local development.

This paper aims at defining the objectives of transparency and accountability in municipal work and its direct impact on achieving comprehensive and balanced local development.

On the patterns of corruption and obstacles that impede the implementation of accountability and transparency in the Jordanian municipalities.

On the other hand, the study aims to investigate ways to strengthen accountability and transparency in municipal work.

The study used the descriptive analytical method and the questionnaire was used as a study tool.

The study was conducted on six Jordanian municipalities in three main regions in Jordan.

The study found that there is a significant statistical impact on the effect of transparency and accountability on local development in Jordanian municipalities.

The study reccomends to implement tools of accountability and transparency in municipalities in Jordan to ensure local development enhancment as well reducing the level of corruption in municipal work.
