Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the obstacles that counter female academic leaders at a number of Jordanian universities.

The descriptive methodology was employed, and a 41-item questionnaire was administered to (122) academic female leaders at a number of Jordanian universities.

The questionnaire was subject to the vaidity and reliability tests.

The results revealed that female academic leaders face mild level cultural societal, self imposed, administrative and professional organizational obstacles.

However, five items of the 'cultural societal' dimension and two items of the 'self imposed’ dimension were given higher means which result points to the masculine culture on the one hand and the conflict between the leadership role' and 'the biological societal’ role of women on the other.

The results revealed a statistically significant difference between participants from Government and Private universities in favor of the latter.

The study concluded with recommendations.
