Abstract EN

This study aims at identifying the perceptions of Arab Open University students in Saudi Arabia towards digital citizenship and determines ways of activating it from the student’s point of view as well as identifying differences in the perceptions of students and ways to activate digital citizenship which is attributed to gender variables or the number of hours of internet use.

A questionnaire of 65 items and a descriptive analytical method were used to collect and analyse the results.

The results of the study showed that the level of perceptions of university students for digital citizenship and ways of activating them is very high.

The study also showed statistically significant differences in the level of students' perceptions of digital citizenship, and differences in ways of enhancing citizenship due to gender variable for male students.

The study also showed significant differences of the amount of internet usage as those who use the internet more than three hours are more significant of those who use it less than an hour.

The study recommended the adoption of the results and the need to introduce a course on digital citizenship in the foundation programme at Arab Open University.
