The analysis of Origanum oil by GC-MS revealed that the oil contained mainly thymol (50.75%) and carvacrol (32.17%), and they constituted (82.92%) of total essential oil.

The oil also contained terpenes in different concentrations such as terpinen-4-ol (3.77%) and gamma-terpinene (1.24%).

Results of total compounds in oil revealed that the oil exhibited strong antioxidant activity as shown by the consistently high values of DPPH free radical-scavenging inhibition (91.8%) at 1000 ppm oil concentration.

The oil inhibited the growth of all tested microorganisms at different concentrations.
