Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the effect of employing Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) on the development of the understanding of the nature of science and Improvement the Level of achievement among third intermediate class students in the second semester of academic year (2017/2018 AD -1438-1439 AH).

The study uses a semi-experimental design.

The purposive sample consist of (57) students in the experimental group and (59) students in the controlling group, both are chosen from the original population which consists of (2407) from the third intermediate class students' at Yanbu Albaher city in Saudi Arabia.

The instruments which are used in this study: understanding of the nature of science test and the academic achievement test.

The study results show that there are significant statistical differences in the understanding of the nature of science and the academic achievement attributed to employing science and engineering practices.

Based on the findings, the study recommends the need to pay more attention to the implementation of science and engineering practices in science teaching and learning, and that science teachers should be trained on using methods and strategies of development of the understanding of the nature of science and academic achievement
