The study aims to identify the reality of the programs that prepare teachers in the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan and Yarmouk University from the faculty members’ perspective.
The study was applied to (8) faculty members in the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Jordan and Yarmouk University in the first semester of 2018/2019.
In order to reach the purposes of the study, the researcher employed the semi-open interview which consisted of 35 questions.
The results after analyzing the responses of the sample showed that there are gaps in the programs of teachers' preparation.
These gaps were: the low level of the input for the faculty members, which negatively affects their practical achievement and their level of performance as teachers.
The philosophy of teacher’s training colleges continuously allows students to study despite their low grades in the first semester.
As well as weakness in the applied courses in the teachers’ preparation colleges, where the colleges of education focus on the theoretical side instead of the practical side.
In addition, the teaching methods used in the college depend on the lecture and delivery method.
The workshops and mini-teaching do not receive much attention.
The results also indicate the most important features of teachers’ educational programs that the participants hope to reach, including acceptance of students in the department after passing an acceptance test that includes reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Also, students must obtain a specific mark in order to continue in the college and the program should include enough hours of field training.
As for the role of faculty members in in order to achieve improvement of the program, the participants proposed to analyze the competencies necessary for the teaching profession and to view the curriculum of the students’ majors.
Moreover, employ strategies that mimic what students will practice when teaching.
Some of the recommendations that the participants point out is the need of setting criteria for acceptance of students in the faculties of educational sciences, including passing a test in reading, writing and numeracy.
As well as an increase in the number of hours in the application field for students.
Also, expand the cultural materials in the teachers’ educational program.
