Abstract EN

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using the six thinking hats strategy on the development of EFL female third secondary students' reading comprehension skills.

To achieve the objectives of the study, the main question was raised: Is there any statistically significant difference at the level of (0.05) between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the post application of the reading comprehension test.

To answer the questions of the study, the semi experimental approach was used and the reading comprehension skills was test was conducted.

Two groups of 21 students each were selected randomly from the population of the third secondary grade female students in Bisha governorate of Education during the academic year 2019-2020.

One group was selected randomly as the experimental group that was taught reading comprehension texts using the six thinking hats strategy, and the other group was selected randomly as the control group that was taught according to the conventional method.

The students of both groups were exposed to the pre-/ posttest.

Using Mann-Whitney U Test, it is found that there is a statistically significant difference at the level of 0.05 in favor of the experimental group.

Furthermore, the effect size of applying the six thinking hats strategy in teaching reading comprehension skills was large.

This indicates that the six thinking hats strategy is effective.

Conclusion, recommendations and suggestions for further studies are put forward.
