This research studies one of the most important architectural elements, which is the column that was used in all different civilizations to support the roofs, walls, or entrances, in order to transfer the loads of the horizontal elements to the bases and foundations that in turn transport them to the ground.

The use of columns in general was limited to palaces and temples, and was not used in public homes, as the places in which the columns were used varied, so they were used to hold balconies in many palaces, also used to support the walls and to carry roofs, and the greatest use was in them in the entrances in particular.

The columns in all these architectural units combined the functional and the decorative side.
