The Orthostats that adorn the lower part of the walls of many buildings evolved from the idea of stone foundations that separate the walls made of mud brick from the ground, for their protection from moisture, followed by a transitional stage in which the stone foundations were made of polished but not ornate stones as in Ebla and Alalakh, But architecture tendency is always present in architecture and sculptor to use these stone surfaces to decorate it with various forms taken from the surrounding nature, and from religious beliefs, in addition to some scenes of daily and political life.

Orthostats were used to decorate palaces, temples, and gates only.

It was not used in other public or private facilities.
