In this paper we will present a contrastive pragma-linguistic analysis between the strategies of verbal politeness in the language of the Spanish novel The family of Pascual Duarte by Camilo José Cela and the Egyptian novel The thief and the dogs by Naguib Mahfuz.
The analysis focuses on exposing the linguistic acts that reflect the positive image of the supposed "criminal" in both texts.
In the same way, the transgression of the negative image of the same will be analyzed.
As an opposite extreme, the strategies that break the positive image of the "other" and the strategies that keep the image negative in the two novels are analyzed.
So, it is convenient to take advantage of the Politeness Principle of Brown and Levinson (1987), which is essential when analyzing the image, both positive and negative, in a verbal communication.
We will emphasize the basic property of this Principle which is "the public image".
The objective of the study is to highlight the intuitive agreement of both writers at a pragma-linguistic level, in handling verbal courtesy in favor of the positive image of the supposed "criminal" at the expense of the positive image of the "other".
Likewise, the negative image of the "other" is maintained in favor of the negative of the "criminal" in these two texts.

En este trabajo presentamos un análisis pragma-lingüístico contrastivo entre las estrategias de la Cortesía verbal en el lenguaje de la novela española La familia de Pascual Duarte de Camilo José Cela y la novela egipcia El ladrón y los perros de Naguib Mahfuz.
El análisis se centra en exponer los actos lingüísticos que reflejan la imagen positiva del supuesto ''criminal'' en ambos textos.
Del mismo modo, se va a analizar la transgresión de la imagen negativa del mismo.
Como extremo opuesto, se analizan las estrategias que rompen la imagen positiva del "otro" y las estrategias que le mantienen negativa la imagen en las dos novelas.
Así que, se ve conveniente aprovecharse del Principio de Cortesía de Brown y Levinson (1987), que es esencial a la hora de analizar la imagen tanto positiva como negativa en una comunicación verbal.
Haremos hincapié en la propiedad básica de este Principio que es ''la imagen pública''.
El objetivo del estudio es destacar el acuerdo intuitivo de ambos escritores a nivel pragma- lingüístico, en manejar la cortesía verbal a favor de la imagen positiva del supuesto ''criminal'' a costa de la imagen positiva del ''otro''.
Asimismo, se ve mantenida la imagen negativa del ''otro'' a beneficio de la negativa del ''criminal'' en estos dos textos.
