Abstract EN

Translation is traditionally known as a mere act of transfering a text from a source language into to a target language taking into consideration the environmental, cultural, social and civilisational context of both texts.

It is not an easy task to translate as far as there are multiple semantic possibilities offered to the translator-reader by each word in the source text, and each word is defined according to its relationship to other words.

The task of the translator gets even more complicated when he/she faces religious texts, for its nature imposes a reader oriented perspective that aims at impacting people's mentalities and has an effect on their behaviour and thoughts.

Religious texts are nothing but deeply rooted ideological texts that can lead, in the worst situations, to wars and conflicts.

Our pape is about the translation of religious texts, first we explain what are its specifities and how it is related to humanistic concepts that shape receptors' minds and determine their actions.

Then we expose some misinterpretations of the Quran when translated in different editions.

Let us not forget to mention that the Quran holds a special place in the islamic world and is not 'translatable' in the original meaning of the word 'to translate', rather it is a text which interpretations 'only' are translated, at best.
