Abstract EN

Since independence, Algeria has supported its demographic information system by conducting censuses, surveys and civil registration data, in order to provide decision-makers with indicators for conception and monitoring development programs for the population.

In contrast, a small number of studies have attempted to determine the quality of the data using indirect estimation methods.

In this context, this paper evaluates all the studies that used this type of method on population age and sex composition, mortality and fertility during the period 1962- 2019, highlighting the strength of the analysis some of them, and the weakness of others, resulting from the non-actualization of the concepts and the non-taking into account of the demo-sanitary processes, as well as the social, economic and security conditions experienced by the country.
