Abstract EN

Polysystem Theory is part of Translation Studies.

It contributed greatly to the founding of the Modern Science of Translation.

The aim of the present article is not to trace up its course.

Rather, its objective is to find out Itamar Even-Zohar's and Gideon Toury's influence on translation in general and on Descriptive Translation Studies in particular.

Our purpose is to weigh up the areas of strength and weakness to this theory, in the eyes of translation theoreticians and scholars, and consider the suggestions of the latter to its modification and refinement.
