In the light of the development of the criminal policy and the adoption of some legislations for alternative punishments besides the traditional penalties to strengthen the objectives of the punishment in deterrence, reform and rehabilitation, the present study examines the importance of criminal severity and its connection with punishment in terms of the effect on imposing a criminal sanction, and the extent to which it is considered a criterion in assessing alternative penalties because of their role in revealing the extent of the danger that accompanies the criminal's behavior For these reasons and the importance of criminal risk in determining the amount of punishment, we seek to show the link between this inherent criminal seriousness and the alternative punishment according to its legal nature.
