Abstract EN

The effect of blending small amounts of methanol to the vacuum gas oil (VGO) feedstock in the catalytic cracking process was investigated using different methanol/gas oil blending ratios (1-5 %).

The experiments were carried out in a fixed-bed reactor using an industrial catalyst (CSK), at a temperature of 650°C and atmospheric pressure.

The experimental results showed that the addition of methanol led to the improvement of the conversion rate and the yields of both the gaseous and naphtha products.

There was also a significant increase in the olefin content of the gaseous product and of the aromatic and olefinic contents of the produced naphtha.

This was also accompanied by a reduction of the coke produced
