Abstract AR
Abstract EN
This study deals with the relationship of the Umayyad state towards non-Arab Muslims called Mawali, as attested by the formation of the society of the early Islamic state and the different social and demographical categories of the people who lived in the whole empire.
It aims at refuting some of the previous and allegations accusing the Umayyad of their preferential treatment of Arab Muslims over non-Arab Muslims.
Some of old theories accused Umayyads of practicing a kind of racial discriminations towards Muslims who were not of Arab origin.
Some of these allegations accused Umayyads of racial discrimination and claimed that they deprived Mawali of all of the prestigious positions and careers.
They also said that non-Arab Muslims were not allowed to marry Arab Muslims.
In addition to this they were forced to pay tribute and higher taxes compared to Arab Muslims.
These biased previous views by some scholars have been proved wrong in this study since and in accordance with many historical resources, many of the Mawlai (Non-Arab Muslims) were given high ranks in the Umayyad government.
This study came to the conclusion that both Arab Muslims and Non-Arab Muslims contributed to the development of the Umayyad civilization in all aspects of life.
Some individual cases and incidents of unequal treatment between Arab Muslims and Non-Arab Muslims can never be considered as a trait of the Umayyad state.
