Abstract EN

Our paper aims at clarifying the real nature of the adaptation concept that had long been perceived as only a form of rewriting or an imitation of the original.

We are dealing with this practice in the specific field of audiovisual translation, and more precisely the transfer of documentary films.

In addition to that, we are mainly focusing in this research on the different forms that adaptation could take as a global strategy, which goes beyond the simple technique of translation, used in specific cases.

Hence, an overview of the concept will be provided to determine its definition, and so a scheme demonstrating how could adaptation be applied as a strategy in translating audiovisual texts, principally in translating documentaries.
