Abstract EN

The present paper investigates the phenomenon of semiotic multimodal literary storytelling in Margaret Laurence's The Diviners.

The study has a twofold objective: it provides an insightful review of the potentials of the multiplicity of semiotic resources in fiction narrative.

It aims simultaneously to demonstrate the ways in which multimodality gives birth to feminist historiographic metafiction.

Thus the correlation of concrete poetics, typography, layout and illustration, and textual poetics in this multimodal novel entails the combination of codes of history and gender.
