The primary concern of this study is to explore the kinds of errors made by a group of Algerian EFL learners at university level in their written and oral expressions.

More specifically, the study seeks to answer the following question: What are the most common errors that Algerian students commit in their written and oral expressions? Two major sources of data were used to answers the research questions: the written test essays of 35 participants of the chosen university and a short talk of one student among the 35 students who participated in the written test.

The researcher used a simple random sampling method to select the participants of the present study which consist of 35 male and female undergraduates at Chlef University.

The findings revealed that the participants in this study committed a great number of errors and most of them was due to L1 transfer.
