Abstract EN

A new carbon paste electrode (CPE) for Cu2+ ion modified with complex of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) with Copper(II) as electroactive meterial was prepared.

The best performances were obtained by carbon paste electrode with the composition Graphit powder (48.5%), Paraffin Oil as plasticizer (48.5%), Cu-PAN as electroactive material (2.0%) and NaTPB as anionic additive.

This electrode exhibited a linear potential response to copper (II) in the concentration range (2.19*10-7-2.00*10-3M) with Nernstain slope of 28.96mV/decade, detection limit of 1.96*10-7M, response time, 30sec, adequate life time (70 days), and it is suitable for copper(II) determination within pH (3.0-7.0).

This electrode is selective for copper (II) over a large number of metal ions.

Described carbon paste electrode was used in analytical measurement by direct potentiometry for determination of Cu2+ in standard and aqueous samples.
