Abstract EN

sensitive, simple and selective spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Copper (II) with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN).

This method depends on the formation of stable red colored complex at pH=5.62 which has a maximum absorption at 555nm.

The optimum experimental conditions were investigated such as effect pH, PAN concentration and type of solvent.

The molar ratio of Copper (II) to PAN 1:2.

Beerʼs Law was obeyed over the Copper (II) concentration range (0.09- 5.00)μg/ml, with minimum detection limit of 0.068μg/ml, relative standard deviation which did not exceed 1.56%.

Sandell sensitivity was 3.26×10-3μg/cm2 and molar absorptivity was 3.9×104l/mol.cm.

By this method, it can be determined the Copper (II) with high, selective and sensitive precision without any interferences with a large number of metal ions.

The method is applied to determine Copper (II) in standard and real aqueous samples
