The city of Baghdad developed during the past eight centuries, and during its long life it was exposed to multiple waves of foreign invasions that left its own character on the city, but the biggest change occurred in it during the twentieth century where the political systems that have rolled over Iraq since the English occupation have prevailed until now, which was printed The city has a new character, which led to a change in the morphology of the city, and thus the traditional Arab scheme disappeared in the shadows at a time when new and different forms of planning appeared.

The overlap between the ancient traditional plan of the city and the modern planning patterns that simulate the western city on the one hand and trying to keep pace with technical developments on the other hand, contributed to the emergence of the architectural confusion and the overlap between the architectural patterns that prevailed and those that retain the cultural heritage, which created a form of architectural chaos, In addition to other forms of architectural chaos that the city suffers from, the deterioration of the old city, the functional overlap between the uses of land in a single area, and the spread of slums.
