Abstract EN

The present study aims to show the dialectic of the Same and the Other in the translation of Malek Haddad’s novel ‘The Pupil and the Lesson’ into Arabic, by highlighting the translating practice adopted during the transfer, in which linguistic choices are linked to cognitive structures and processes, and the extent to which it is possible to achieve the same cognitive and dialectical persuasion as expressed in the original text.

We also seek, through this paper, to search for the best translation strategy to translate this novel; to examine the case of provoking the same experience of change, in the receiver’s mental state, by analyzing and criticizing the translations of Sami Al Jundi and Cherfeddine Choukri, and which version may enable readers to see the effects of the original text, even if they do not experience them directly or in the same way, in the midst of the dialectic of Same and Other.
