Abstract EN

This paper is intended to highlight the role and position of the Algerian women in the colonial period despite the ambiguity of their status in the modern period.

With nearly total invisibility of their role and social status as a result of several factors: perhaps the most important of which the masculine system in which woman are created, as well as the sociorcial pattern of Algerian society, whose legitimacy derives from customs, traditions and customary laws that have sometimes been unjust in the right of woman.

The popular memory and the oral tradition also had a share of composition of the Algerian individual, who considered everything that belonged to woman is a taboo that mustn't be discussed.

In addition, the local writhing has received very little on woman's issues, so we through the Colonial Writings, the recent which contributed significantly to the unveiling of some issues that were until recently marginalized and under untold story.

Thus, it has been a must for the researcher in history, especially the social part of it, to see it in order to fill the knowledge gaps left by the local writings, but this without neglecting the insight and the critical readings in these writings, which is originally a tool of colonialism, and its main objective is penetrating the depth of Algerian society.
