Abstract EN

The constituent board we are analysing, is belonging to the tower constituted by Arroudj , at the north side of Cherchell town.

It includes a writing with the maghrebin style , on a piece made of about the town , like names of personalities.

Moreover, it confirms the foundation of a military piece of architecture in the town.

The text of six lines includes the following: In the name of God the almighty, the merciful , might peace be upon his prophet , and his family -this is the tower of Cherchell , made by the leader Mahmoud ben Fares Al Zaki, within the caliphate of Arroudj Ben Yaakoub -in 924.

Cherchell Tower has been destroyed by the French colonial forces in 1860, but some old pictures show its initial form and design , which is characterized by a square projection.

The interest in maghreb calegraphy is an evidence on the variety of the aspects of islamic arabic arts.

The maghrebi script is distingui by the special form of its letters.
