Abstract EN

This article aims to explain how elections misemployment as a constructive tool for competing for power and peacefully managing political conflicts leads to failed democratization.

Through reviewing the Kenyan experience, the researcher will spotlight the elite's abuse of electoral rules and institutions and the relationship with Kenya's democratic deficit, although it has started its transition path since the 1990s.

The importance of this article is that it will contribute from the use of a modern analytical framework, ''electoral despotism'', to attain a scientific and objective understanding of the deviance that has affected the employment of elections, which, having been a mechanism for moving to a supposedly more democratic system, has become a mechanism for consolidating the autocracy.
