Chlamydial antibody titre, screening for tubal factor in infertility

This is a prospective study carried out to explore the relationship between serum Chlamydia antibody titres (CATs) and detection of tubal damage in infertile women.

The study done at Shebin El-Kom teaching hospital.

Methods, Thirty infertile women assessed for tubal and peritoneal factors using laparoscopy were related to CAT which was measured using the whole- cell inclusion immunofluorscence test.

Results, A positive correlation between serum CAT and the likelihood of tubal damage, including sever damage was observed (p<0.001).

Women with high antibody titre had more sever tubal damage.

001) higher than in women with endometriosis alone or those with a normal pelvis.

Conclusions, CATs are of practical purposes and in contrast to laparoscopy or HSG, the test is non-invasive, simple, so that it is useful as a screening test for tubal factor.
