The Role of color doppler imaging in the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome anchanges after ovarian drilling and clomiphen citrate treatment

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a clinical disorder characterized by infertility, oligomenorrhea, hirsutism, acne and obesity.

The typical polycystic ovary has been traditionally described as enlarged and pearly white ovary with thick capsule and numerous subcapsular follicles, high pituitary output of luteinising hormone and secretion of excessive amount of androgens constituting the basis of chronic Anovulation in polycystic ovary syndrome.

Objective Of The Study : To asses the role of color Doppler ultrasound in the diagnosis of PCOS and ultrasonic & Hormonal changes after ovarian drilling and clomiphen citrate treatment.

This study was performed on 50 infertile patients chosen from the outpatient clinic of obstetrics and gynecology department Al- Azhar University hospitals.

Our findings show that there is an increase in the ovarian vascularity with significant decrease in the resistance index (0.61 ± 0.6) and pulsatility index (0.82 ± o.l5) of the PCOS group compared to resistance index (0.79 ± 0.07)and pulsatility index (o.96 ± 0.09)of the control group.

Doppler study after clomid treatment shows that there is significant decrease in the ovarian blood flow with increase in the ovarian Doppler study.

So, the assessment of ovarian and uterine vascularity may add a greater understanding of ovarian hemodynamics changes to traditional hormonal and ultrasound features of PCOS.
